Justin Sun’s Tron (TRX) project continues to attract attention within the cryptocurrency industry. The expert showmanship of their CEO brought them this far, but now they have a product to stand behind. The initial release of Tron’s test net occurred at the very end of 2018’s first quarter. Dubbed the Exodus phase by their development team, test net activity started strong and remains high. Nodes cropped up around the globe, as tinkerers and full-scale developers alike see what Tron has to offer them. These early adopters are preparing for the Main Net launch, scheduled for the end of the month.
Tron’s main net platform is the culmination of the aptly named Exodus phase. Once the blockchain is complete, Tron holders can begin migrating their holding over from the current ERC-20 standard token currently in use. This would be a major success for TRX – despite their continued success and aggressive road map, they’ve suffered from lack of a product until now.
Justin Sun versus Vitalik Buterin
In a recent Twitter conversation, Justin Sun expounded on the virtues of his platform. Unfortunately, he chose to do so by comparing them against the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain. While the theoretical, and perhaps even prototype, Tron platform may indeed surpass Ethereum, there is not yet any proof to that effect. Sun spoke at length about the speed and efficiency of TRX transactions, as well as their inherent support for content creators and application developers.

Of course, Ethereum’s blockchain is proven. The platform exists and despite their issues, it continues to hold as solid second spot in the list of top cryptocurrencies by market cap. The Raiden Network team brought off-chain payment channels to Ethereum, mitigating many of the supposed problems. Ethereum head Vitalik Buterin said as much in a biting response to Sun’s tweet, and Sun wisely chose not to follow up on the argument.
The Next Phase of Tron Development
The Main Net launch is just the beginning of Tron’s road map and will allow the second phase of development to begin. While Exodus is understandably technology oriented, Odyssey will maximize Justin Sun’s specific skill set. In the second phase of development, Tron will seek to attract content creators to their platform. Positioning themselves as the de-facto location for decentralized media is the stated goal of the Tron project, after all. Sun’s charisma and networking will do wonders for attracting the caliber of creator needed to sustain the project.
Certainly, there are still questions to answer and systems to release, but Tron remains one of the few projects to successful reach fruition. Their test net is a solid proof of concept that puts weight behind their constant announcements. Many of the partnerships that Justin secured will now begin developing content for the Tron platform, and the main net launch will allow them to release these products to the world.
