Overview: Ethereum Classic (ETC) has a unique history and series of events that led to its creation. In a nutshell, Ethereum Classic was a hard fork of the regular Ethereum blockchain that came about due to the major hacking of TheDAO and its smart contract in June 2016. The Ethereum Foundation’s initial response was to implement a soft fork, but it too was also hit by security vulnerabilities. After intense debating, the Foundation decided to implement a hard fork at Block 1920000. At Block 1920001, Ethereum Classic came into being. However, Ethereum Classic continued to bring controversy with issuing a Declaration of Independence.
